Stomach bug

Dear Hunter,

This long weekend in October 2021, you have been unwell with a stomach bug. The diarrhoea has been going for two days now and you started vomiting this morning.

You love your coconut ice blocks, which have helped you feel better. You’ve been able to keep most fluids down now.

It is the hardest part of being a parent, when you see your baby sick and you can’t do much to make them feel much better. The only thing you can really do is give lots of extra cuddles, keep the fever down with panadol and nurofen to help with muscles aches and pains.

We’ve spent today resting and enjoyed some sunshine but you have been very tired and not your usual full of energy, running around flat out self.

Let’s hope you are all better by the time you wake up tomorrow morning.

At this age (13.5 months) your favourite food is still avocado’s, you love popcorn, coconut ice blocks and peanuts are your favourite. You love playing with the electric toothbrushes. The animals are your favourite, you could chases skips tail around all day snd try riding his back like a pony.

You are the most sweetest boy. Your latest thing is you’ve started to give us kisses if you see us hurt or if you want something that e have said no to, you’ll toddle over and give us the biggest kiss on the lips. It melts my heart and you can get away with anything doing that.

I love being your mum and I love watching you grow. I have never lived like this before and I’ve never been in aww of anyone like I am with you.

You are and always will be perfect to me in every way. I love you so much my sweet baby boy.

Love always,

Your Mum xoxo

Rainy Days

Dear Bubba,

Today it was raining from the moment we woke up. The sound of the rain falling off our tiled roof and pounding on the ground created a warm and cosy atmosphere. We could see the misty clouds laying low across the mountains. The air is cold and the bed was so warm and comfortable. I don’t know how your dad managed to get up at 3:30am to leave for work this morning.

I’m so glad I get to wake up to you every morning and take our time getting up. I love waking up before you and just staring at your perfect little face and body. I love seeing you start to roll around and then open your eyes for the first time that day. You give out a big stretch and then once you figure out what’s going on you give me a big cuddle. It’s the greatest thing in the whole wide world.

This morning once we got ourselves out of bed we made some pancakes together, you mainly loved throwing the white soft flour across the room and pounding the pancakes with the spatula.

We then enjoyed our pancakes while we watched the movie Marmaduke. You love animals so much and this was mostly talking dogs in it which your thought was funny.

We then rigged up and adventured outside. Once those doors were opened and you had your shoes on, you were off running around. You had brooms in your hands, rocks, sticks, anything you could grab. You chased the puppies, helped me sow seeds and weed the greenhouse. Your favourite part was squelching the wet soft mud through your fingers and toes. It was everywhere but you had the best time doing it.

I love when we play in the greenhouse and as I pick vegetables out of the garden, you love eating them as we go. Mainly the carrots and tomatoes.

We had too warm baths today and settles in for the night early out of that cold rain. Everyday is an awesome day with you around baby boy. You make the days full of happiness, laughter and adventure.

Just remember you can do anything you want to in this world.

I love you so much xoxox

Spring Time

Dear Sweet Hunter,

Spring time is here and the weather is slowly warming up. Most days we start our day with a bunch of cuddles, some breakfast and then a walk to the park and back. You love the park at the moment, mainly for the saw dust flooring to play in, but also for the slippery slide.

For breakfast you are a bit fussy at the moment as you are still having breastmilk a lot of the time, but your favourite foods are popcorn, avocado and peanuts which you sometimes will have for breakfast.

Now with the warmer weather you love having water fights with mummy and the hose. We’ve been establishing vegetables and fruits in the garden which means lots of watering, but you love to help out with the hose as well.

If you are restless in the house all I have to do is go outside and your happy again. Sunshine, the kelpies and the chooks around you and you are in your element.

You’ve become incredible at ball skills. You pick up the soccer ball and throw it a good lob, and you’re able to dribble the ball with your feet. It amazes me how much you can do at 12 months old.

Everything about you excited me baby boy. You’ve got the whole world at your feet and you can do anything you set your mind to. Just look how early you walked, 8 months old. Your determined and will go a long way in this world.

12 Hour Nursing Shift

Dear Sweet Boy,

Yesterday mummy had her first big shift back in nursing. I was not home for 12 hours. I was lucky that your daddy took the utmost best care of you. I always know you are safe, happy and keeping him busy when you two are together. You get up to lots of mischief.

I love hearing how your day was together when I get home. You were sound asleep when I got home, but your dad absolutely adores you. We can’t stop talking about how cute you are and all the incredible things you do.

You boys enjoyed feeding Weetbix to the chickens out of your hands, you played with the kelpies for hours, you love running after the kelpies and chasing after their sticks and balls, you boys collected mulberries fresh off the trees and were eating them quicker then you could pick them, you both watched your favourite Volvo machine show on YouTube about 10 times and enjoyed lots of yummy foods throughout the day.

I was lucky enough to get a visit from you at the airport where you were able to watch the jets flying over. They were so loud, but you loved it. You love anything in the sky and become mesmerised by it, whether it’s birds, planes, stars or the moon.

You had a breastfeed and you were full of energy again. It made it a lot easier on me to see you and give you lots of cuddles before daddy took you home.

You are the most beautiful, sweet, adventurous loving boy. I’m so lucky to be your mum and watch you grow. Thank you for picking me.

12 months old and 6 health scares

Dear Hunter,

At only 12 months old you have had 6 health scares with mummy and daddy.

You have fallen off the lounge at 3 months old when you had decided to start rolling over early. You bumped your head on the floor and we ended up in the hospital straight away. They reassured us, even though it’s a scary and worrying time, it’s one of the most common admissions into the hospital. We had to monitor you in hospital for 4 hours to make sure you didn’t vomit or get unusually sleepy. You had another fall off the bed as well a few months after, but you were ok with close monitoring.

You’ve been into the hospital for when you stood on a nail. Which luckily healed up nicely and didn’t get infected.

Just recently you had fevers in the night time, but there was no other symptoms that you showed until the next day when you got sleepy and didn’t want to walk much. You ended up having a tick on your back. Luckily we got that one off and you started to feel much better by the next day. tick season is here now that spring is here, so we have to be extra careful.

Once you were carrying around a soda water bottle without the lid on it and you had it in your mouth. You tripped and the rim of the bottle jammed up between your front two teeth and the roof of your mouth. There was lots of blood, but it seemed to heal up quickly and didn’t stop you eating and drinking thank goodness.

Not that long ago you managed to pull open the locked bathroom cupboard door with your strong muscles. You found the tea tree oil bottle which had a lid on it, but it was loose. It leaked a bit in your mouth when you tipped it up. Luckily enough it was only a drizzle. I phoned the poisons hotline and they said to monitor you closely for vomiting or pain, unusual behaviour, but they reassured me that if it was less then 5mls it’s very unlikely to cause any harm.

So you certainly keep us on our toes. I love you so much and want to keep you so safe. But you are an inquisitive little boy and I love watching you discover and learn. Please no more scares now bubba.

Your going to be an incredible human adult one day little munchkin. I love your sweet adventurous nature.

I love you so much.

Love Mum xoxo 😘

Stepped on a nail

Dear Hunter,

You are the most fun, loving, sweet, adventurous, energetic, outdoor loving, little boy. You keep me fit and running. No moment with you is dull.

I have to keep a close eye on you though as you are very quick at the age of 12 months. You seem to attract to rocks, holes, edges, sharp objects, and more.

The other day the rain started to pour and we had bags of clothes under the house. When we went to move them to higher ground, you stood onto a nail sticking out of a piece of wood. My heart sunk as you were brought to tears and couldn’t put your foot down. The mail was quite long. I wasn’t sure how deep it went but we went to the hospital anyway.

You had your first X-ray which proved to demonstrate you have very ticklish feet. The radiographer found it very tricky to move your foot and jeep it still. You have the cutest feet by the way.

The Drs looked at your foot and the X-ray. We were lucky that it didn’t hit you bone just below your little toe on your left foot.

Some pink liquid antibiotics, Panadol and your tetanus booster the next day had you sorted. your a tough cookie my sweet baby boy.

12 Month Vaccinations

Dear Hunter,

Since you’re now 12 months you unfortunately had to get the 12 month vaccinations. There was 3 this time for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), pneumococcal, and tetanus, whooping cough, and diphtheria.

You were so brave at the Drs you weighted 11.5kg, your height was 75cm and your head circumference was 50cm. When those needles came along you cried only for a short moment and after 10 seconds, you were back to your happy laughing, smiley self.

That night your muscles were sore and it was hard to feed you in bed on your side as it pained your arm. This week you’ve been up and down with emotions and tonight as I lay beside you, you’ve woke for the 6th time since going to sleep 4 hours ago. I blame the vaccines for upsetting your system and making you feel out of sorts and unwell.

Tonight you’ve had some Infacol, as that normally settles your tummy if it’s upset, which your tummy does sound extra bubbly, and you’ve had some paracetamol form discomfort to your body, teeth and anywhere else that bothers you.

Tonight when you woke for the 5th time you requested cuddles and comfort. The cuddles and hold that we shared made me never want to let go. I could have held onto you forever.

You bring so much joy and life into my life Hunter. You excited me and make me look forward to every part of the day, especially when I wake up before you and I get to admire you sleep and watch you slowing wake up with a big bright and happy smile on your face. You normally do a huge stretch before tossing and crawling in for cuddles.

I love every part of you and every second together. Your the greatest little Hunter boy.

Love Mum xoxo

Your 1 years old

Dear Hunter,

You are officially now a one year old. Yesterday on your first birthday we had so much fun. I made 2 cakes for you, one for eating and one for you to smash.

I made you a white cow with rainbow layers inside. You started off poking it and eventually you were ripping it open and stomping on the buttercream icing. We hosed you off and you kept running around in the sunshine.

The sun was so lovely and warm all day. We did a lot of sunbaking and too much eating. The chocolate machinery cake I made you was mus cale and very rich.

We also had fun under the sprinkler, you rode the horsey, mowed lawns, played with your toys and balloons. You smiled and laughed all day. I think you were on a sugar high from all the cake as well. You skipped your nap today with all the excitements but then you slept for 12 hours.

We are so lucky to be your mum and dad Hunter King. You are loved by many people. You received gifts in the mail, messages on Facebook and lots of virtual reality cuddles were sent.

I love getting to watching you grow, explore, discover and process the world. You amaze me in every way. Too clever for your mummy. Sweet dreams my dear boy.

The night before

Dearest Hunter,

Tonight is the night before I had you 1 year ago today. At this point in time I was in Macksville Hospital with your dad. I was having intense contractions and I remember not being able to find a comfortable position. Most of the night I spent curled over the end of the bed trying to brace myself for each contraction. I also had about 7 showers that night to comfort me and give me some relief from the pain.

Your dad and my world was about to change for the better. We have been so happy and grateful for you every single day. You make this world a better place.

Your smile makes other people smile. Your deep voice is the cutest. You are strong willed and I can tell you are going to be passionate about your passions. Always follow your heart as that will lead you to happiness my sweet boy.

You can do anything you want to in this world.

Henry Ford once said “there are two types of people in this world, those who think they can and those who think they can’t. They are both right.”

I hope you have the best first birthday. I can’t wait to celebrate you and your first year.

Garden baby

Dear Hunter,

Today we spent the day gardening. You love anything outdoors so I knew we were both in for a good day.

The sun was shining and warm, they animals were around us (Skip, Nala and Molly) being the kelpies and cat, and we had each other.

We tackled the start of building a hedge for the front fence line. Digging holes every metre, filling with fresh premium soil and planting little Lilly pilly trees. You loved watering them and even pulling some of the trees out that we had already llanted.

You make me laugh as everything is fun and an adventure. Your laugh and way of life is glorious to watch. It brings warmth to my heart to see you laughing at the puppies playing with each other and I love when you walk up to me for a cuddle.

Your cheekiest thing you do at the moment is wet me with the hose as soo as I hand it to you. I think it’s our game now. I scream and you laugh.

You love watching the moon and seeing the cows across the road. Tonight you sleep soundly in my arms with the cosy electric blanket on and your breathing is so soothing. You are the best bubba and every movement, sound and sight of you makes me melt. I find it hard every time I look at you not to kiss you continuously.

Sweet dreams my precious baby boy and may you wake up well rested and ready for some more outdoor fun and games tomorrow.

Hunter sound asleep on mummy. Fell asleep almost straight away in the shower tonight once that warm water touched his back.
